Resource

Page history last edited by Sheila MacNeill 1 year, 5 months ago

Learning opportunities demand resources, human, academic and technical. Sessions are planned to determine the detailed timing of activities and the logistics of delivery, support and assessment. Physical and virtual learning spaces and learning content are prepared, whether designed from new or repurposed/instantiated for this course and cohort. Staffing issues are addressed, which may entail upskilling or drawing in of specialist staff resources.

Component processes: timetabling, scheduling, staffing, develop/repurpose learning resources, session planning (logistics), costing

Enabling systems: Digital environments are prepared for the context of use. Digital resources are made adaptive, accessible and available. Timetabling can be synchronised with information such as staff and student availability, ICT requirements. Pedagogic planning tools can support logistical planning of sessions and reflection on the total learning experience.

Findings on costing models

Current resourcing models, and the work patterns that result from them, have been identified as a barrier to responsive, flexible and collaborative curriculum development at a number of institutions. In particular, rigid costing models e.g. by staff contact time – assuming a particular ratio of lectures, seminars, and assessment by final examination – may make it difficult to initiate technology-enhanced modes of delivery. At many institutions, cost analysis (like market research) has only recently been seen as a critical aspect of curriculum design and delivery, and specialist staff are not always involved in the process at an early enough stage.
