The use of technologies and standards to support curriculum design and delivery can bring a range of benefits and help institutions meet a number of different challenges. These range from managing institutional course data and supporting institutional workflows around course development to enhancing learner engagement with assessment and feedback and personalising the curriculum. At whatever level different types of technology are employed to support different institutional processes, there is evidence of the real value they can bring to a range of different stakeholders.
There is a diverse use technologies and standards across both programmes which could be seen to reflect ‘an increasing confidence and flexibility not only from staff and students but also in developing institutional systems. People are no longer looking for the magic out of the box solution and are more willing to develop their own integrations based on their real needs.’ (Sheila MacNeill, JISC Cetis). This diversity can be seen in these representations although many of these overlap in terms of purpose and the solutions they offer.
