The CoEducate project is supported by the JISC Institutional Approaches to Curriculum Design programme. The project is led by the University of Bolton.
Our Project
The focus is on re-engineering the professional curriculum by developing a 'just in time' process which underpins the professional, employer-facing role of the University and provides accessible learning. This is being developed through the IDIBL (Interdisciplinary, Inquiry-based Learning) framework which describes a negotiated curriculum approach for work-focused learning. This model puts the students at the heart of this approach to learning and is supported by a framework of 30 credit modules that have process learning outcomes rather than content focused ones making the approach suitable for a wide variety of different work contexts. To support the rapid validation of programmes based on new approaches such as this, the project is also developing course authoring support systems and we anticipate significant benefits to the quality, efficiency and transparency of the curriculum development and validation processes.

Our Outputs
- The IDIBL framework is an Open Educational Resource that describes and approach to learning based on work-focussed learning. It draws upon a range of pedagogical, organisational & curriculum structures that make it possible for different programmes to utilise the framework for a particular identified market without the need to author subject specific modules.
- Workshop plan and resources for Online Activity Design based on Edinburgh Scenarios and Learning Design concepts of activities, roles and environments (includes resources).
- 'Wiring-up' of Moodle with the SITS student data management system, code and lessons learned.
- Moodle category structure tool to enable courses to be moved into appropriate hierachy structures, code and lessons learned.
Our Cluster
We are working in a cluster with 3 other projects involved in the Curriculum Design programme. The common focus of these projects is around learner-centred curriculum design and employer/professional body engagement in the design process. Some of the common issues include organisational and procedural barriers facing staff who want to develop a flexible and responsive curriculum including those that span internal structures.
