Course Tools is a JISC-funded project supported by the Institutional Approaches to Curriculum Design programme. The project is led by the University of Cambridge.
Our Project
The Course Tools Project is developing easy-to-use web tools for fast and flexible access to course information and planning at Cambridge. For staff the project aims to make the processes of managing, updating and co-ordinating courses easier and faster. For instance the project is investigating the development of a central repository of programme information which would be used for dissemination and archiving. In addition, the project hopes to develop an online approval tool to cover full programmes to individual units. The hope is that this will promote more collaborative development of course design, greater and completeness of documentation and greater transparency in workflows and processes. For students benefits of the project will include an online searchable ‘lectures.cam’, more detailed syllabus information in CamTools course sites, individual electronic timetables and sustained freedom to pursue academic interests (e.g. via NST option choices). The project is seeking input from across the University to understand institutional practice and concerns around course information and management.
