The Inter-Disciplinary, Inquiry-Based Learning framework was developed at the University of Bolton by the CoEducate project team. It is an agile approach to course validation for programmes that are work-focused and use inquiry-based approaches rather than standard content teaching in subjects. The premise for developing IDBL was that traditional university study is not a good fit for many potential students, but that alternatives can be difficult to develop and validate within existing frameworks. By focusing on learning that is intrinsically meaningful to the learner, IDBL aims to make learning 'more fulfilling and more delightful, we are looking to widen participation in higher education and promote life-long learning, we are making learning meaningful in people's lives'.
