Feedback from Session 8: Where Next Activity - Bristol workshop, 3 March 2011

 

How could JISC support you and your institution with your technology-enhanced assessment and feedback practices?

 

Things JISC should carry on doing:

  • JISC is doing a good job already – continue to provide good tools and resources for colleges and universities to use

  • Carry on with projects, workshops and resources like these

  • JISC resources - they are great – keep them coming!

  • Thanks – this kind of workshop is really helpful. Sharing and discussing views is extremely valuable

  • Similar events like this

  • Love everything JISC have been doing x2

 

Specific requests:

  • Do you have any projects about e-marking? (Issues of appropriate technology, approaches, health and safety?

  • Review of assessment practice and tools in FE to include the use of digital technology

  • Work with awarding bodies to recognise the use of e-portfolios and technology

  • Any research on word processed examinations?

  • Fund M.Ed fees for senior academics so that they understand what they are doing

  • Hold debates – some ideas need to be argued and tested

  • Publish evidence akin to Wikipedia

  • Help to engage senior staff in our institutions to be open to change

  • Advertise JISC wares better outside of JISC community

  • JISC /JISC RSC to develop a resource based on the Effective Assessment in a Digital Age guide, to deliver an audit/consultation on effective e-assessment

  • JISC to visit institutions to promote and discuss resources available

  • How to get the message across to staff who are not here today and who really need to find out more and make use of the great stuff that’s come out of today

 

What will I do as a result of today?

  • Investigate the assessment diaries and ESCAPE materials – assessment patterns

  • Will follow up links

  • Going to use a lot of the activities for PG-CLTHE

  • Feel re-inspired – my ideas for change are workable

  • Post workshop – Worcester College of Technology have plans to visit Hayden Blackey at University of Glamorgan to assist us with relevant info required for our first FD within our sector.

  • Follow up Assessment diary x2

  • Focus on feedback – When, what and how?

  • Review my assessment patterns and share this with colleagues

  • Develop a model for integrated curriculum use

  • Utilise resources for element of enterprise qualification

  • Look at tools which can be utilised for entrepreneurial education

  • Run a workshop using the ladder activity x2

  • Disseminate today’s ideas to our curriculum innovation project which is developing some cross discipline modules

  • Ask students what they actually want? Eg how would they like to be assessed and do they appreciate having a choice?

  • Impart knowledge gained to colleagues x2

  • Implement an assessment diary

  • Re-use the feedback hierarchy

  • Use activities we did today in staff development workshops

  • Look at the Design Studio x2

  • Blog about today

  • Pass resources onto Academic Development colleagues

  • Share ESCAPE resources to spark idea x2

  • Attempt to build Glamorgan project into institution

  • Bring some ideas into development

  • Share lots of ideas from today with staff in VLE/Turnitin training

  • Promote programme level consideration of assessment

  • Look at more case studies from links provided to support ideas with colleagues

  • Promote assessment diaries and single assessment location in VLE

  • Continue dialogue

  • Educating staff and students about the importance of feedback
