Pros and cons of peer assessment - contributed by delegates at the Newcastle assessment workshop
Pros:
- saves time;
- boosts student understanding of assessment criteria;
- learner engagement and motivation;
- more authentic assessment;
- real life transferable skill
Cons:
- difficult to standardise;
- time consuming to set up and moderate;
- can result in poor feedback;
- students may not understand benefits;
- students may lack necessary confidence.
